Never stop learning?

Translated from the Spanish original.

Could “never” be an alienating way of carrying out an action for which there is no other option? In other words, what would be the result of doing the opposite, of ceasing to learn? These are just some of the questions that come up as I remember that, for instance, this text is possible because I learned to write. And you, reading this, have learned to read and to abstract each of the letters that make up this paragraph, hmm… But I’ll talk about abstraction and the alphabet some other time.

Platzi, which uses this phrase in its slogan, is an online learning platform for skills in the technology industry. With its different schools and more than a thousand courses, the slogan might as well be “you will never manage to learn everything”. But you don’t have to, because in the end what they give us is the possibility of learning whatever we want and focusing on the skill that interests us most.

Like many people I know, I got Platzi during the pandemic. I was already in the tech industry, but my growth had been linear until I got stuck. With Platzi, I was my own startup: I grew exponentially in digital marketing and, on top of my job, I started taking on freelance work building WordPress websites and managing social media.

But that wasn’t enough. I started down a path I had run away from for a long time: building software. I was terrified of code without ever having written a line, but like any startup you’re allowed to pivot, and it’s never too late to learn. Now I love it and it’s a gigantic universe, and that is where I understand the part about never stopping learning.

Basically, with marketing skills, my philosophy degree and software development, I was able to boost my personal brand, and I’m now CTO of two startups. All of that, except for my professional degree, happened in the last year and a half I’ve spent at Platzi.

With great gratitude I visited their inspiring offices for the launch of the documentary El viaje interminable. It is basically an extension of the gratitude of many who, like me, feel thankful to Platzi. Faces I’ve met through the community and whose achievements make me happy, because this isn’t only about me: you, reading this, can be part of this journey, and I’m willing to walk it with you.

If you don’t have a Platzi subscription yet, no problem. I recommend taking the free personal branding course, and if you write to me I can give you more tips to keep learning. I may not have the answers, but let’s learn together.
